Settling Down

As I prepare to visit the U.S. for the summer to catch up with family, friends, and supporters, I've been mentally preparing myself for the inevitable question (one I've been asked multiple times and one my mother recently told me she's been asked quite number of times as well): "Rebecca, when are you going to settle down?"

How to answer this question...I guess the answer depends upon the meaning. So, I shall try to interpret possible meanings and give my answers to each.

1) Settling down means "When are you getting married?"
Good question--and when it happens, the world will know. Typically, I'm all right with my single status, however, as more and more friends get married and start having babies, I start wanting that more and more. But I've trusted my life with one greater than I. I'm leaving the timing up to Him. So, He knows, but He's not telling...yet.

2) Setting down means "When are you moving back to the United States, getting a job that actually pays you, and start living the American dream?"
Probably...NEVER. I have a passion and a calling that is bigger than the American Dream. To not be able to do what God has called me to do, to not be able to love the kids that I've been called to love, to not be apart of something that is bigger than me...I can't imagine that. I don't want the American Dream. I want my God's plan for me. So, until God tells me differently, the States is not a long-term place of residence for me, but rather a pretty sweet vacation spot. ;)

As far a "settling down", I am very settled. I have a flat I love...a job I love...a community that I am so blessed to be a part of...a wonderful church...and I get to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I'm settled. This is my home, and I'm so glad that God has called me to this amazing ministry here. No, this won't be home forever--but no place on this earth is permanent. My forever home is someplace else. But this is home for right now. So, the answer to the "When will I settle down?" I am.
